To help you stay fully compliant with evolving global privacy laws—including California’s CCPA and Europe’s GDPR—we have automatically rolled out a brand-new Privacy Shield feature to your portfolio website.
This update adds a smart, location-aware cookie consent banner to your website. It is designed to protect visitor privacy without slowing down your website.
How It Works: Location-Aware Intelligence
Rather than annoying every single visitor to your site with a cookie pop-up, our platform uses an isolated background routing system to check where your visitor is physically located.
- Strict Privacy Zones (California, European Union, and the United Kingdom): Visitors from these regions are legally protected by strict data privacy frameworks. When they land on your site, our system automatically blocks all Google Analytics tracking cookies by default. Your website will display a privacy consent banner, asking them if they would like to opt in.
- Standard Regions (Everywhere Else): Visitors from unrestricted regions will not see the banner at all. To ensure you don’t lose valuable market insights, their visits are tracked instantly and automatically upon arrival, exactly as they were before.
Once a visitor makes a choice (clicking "Accept" or "Deny"), their browser remembers it for 1 hour, meaning they won't be continually bothered by the banner while exploring your galleries.
Important Impact on Your Analytics Reporting
Because this feature actively prioritizes legal compliance, it changes how Google Analytics gathers data from specific parts of the world. Here is what you should expect to see inside your Google Analytics dashboard:
- A Natural Dip in Traffic Metrics: Because visitors from California, the EU, and the UK must now explicitly click "Accept" before tracking turns on, anyone who clicks "Deny" or simply ignores the banner will not be counted in your Google Analytics reports. You may notice a slight drop in your total visitor count from these specific regions.
- Improved Traffic Quality: While your total volume might look slightly lower, the traffic data that does get recorded will represent highly engaged visitors who intentionally chose to interact with your portfolio.
- Total Safety for Photographers: This trade-off guarantees that your photography business is fully shielded from heavy regional privacy compliance fines, keeping your website legal and secure.
Action Required: Legacy "UA-" Accounts are Permanently Retired
During this upgrade, our system permanently removed support for legacy Google Analytics tracking codes (IDs starting with
UA-).
Google completely shut down its old Universal Analytics processing servers in July 2024. If your profile settings still feature an old
UA- code, your website is currently sending data into a dead black hole and no traffic is being recorded.
